Awarded by the Committee to the "club person of the year". This trophy can usually only be won once and is based on a range of criteria e.g. contribution to the club, exceptional performance, lifetime achievement etc. This is presented at the club end of season dinner and awards night.
The trophy was first awarded in 1973 to commemorate Phillip Chelson, who was 3rd XI captain at the time of his passing.
Current Holder
The Phillip Chelson Trophy for 2023 was awarded to Michael Chadwick.
Michael is co-manager of the u13s and u15s, plus has driven the club to be one of around 15 clubs in Surrey who have hit 100% compliance on the Safe Hands Management System. He is also incredibly helpful on match days with all tasks, but his most important contributions have been facilities related. He was integral to providing sightscreens at Wimbledon Rugby Club and without his practical know how this simply would not have been possible. His knowledge and expertise with welding, angle grinding etc etc saved the club over £5000. Michael also led the moving day of equipment from Oberon to Wimbledon Rugby Club which is the biggest logistical challenge the club have possible ever faced.
