The club has invested in a brand new mobile batting cage, boundary ropes and additional seating.

Preparations for the 2022 season are almost complete as today we took delivery of a brand new mobile batting cage. This will be used in conjunction with a flicx batting wicket, to finally provide Oberon with a net option on match days. There may also be the option later in the season to provide some additional practice on the square depending on the weather.

Details:

  • 11.2m long x 3.6m wide (not including wheels) x 3m high
  • Comes complete with 6 front swivels & 2 rear fixed puncture-proof wheels for ease of use.
  • 3mm one-piece netting
  • Easily moved by two people and can be locked in place using simple pegs.

The cage will hopefully be ready to use for the first league weekend on 7th May. We continue to investigate long term permanent net options for the site and will provide an update later in the season.

What else is new at Oberon?

The boundary flags are no more! A boundary rope (well technically two) can now be used, so no more excuses of the big boundary stopping the 1st XI from scoring any runs...

This will have to be set up and put away before and after every game, but it really helps with the ambience of the site. Combined with the new covers and sightscreens from last year, Oberon is really starting to look like a cricket ground!

A larger manual scoreboard is also now available, so even those on the boundary at the far end should be able to see the score. We also have a significant number of new benches, including several picnic benches. Days in the sun watching the mighty Bank rack up 250 just got even better.

Thank You

None of this would have been possible without those who gave up time to help ferry items around, put the covers back together, re-stock the kitchen area etc.

The club only exists because of our great volunteer network, so feel free to thank all of the following who have helped with some of these items: Andrew Merriman, Barry Brown, Ed Fresson, John Kendall, Richard Kendall, Peter Andrews, Michael Chadwick, Oliver Chadwick & Samuel Chadwick.

Here's to a cracking 2022 season in our ever improving facilities.
